“Zombies” Prototype demo video

This is a quick video to better show off the features implemented in the mod thus far and showcase the optimisations made to the zombie NPCs. In this demo you will see the following:

  • Regenerative player health

  • Proper Regional Damage (headshots)

  • Incremental Zombie health (stronger the more are killed)

  • Damage affecting player speed (NEW – See below for details)

  • Zombie optimisation (over 500 zombies in the world running at 150fps max details!)

It also give an idea of draw distances and environment setting although the models shown here are only placeholder and do not represent the final art style.

The damage affecting player speed was a feature I wanted in to make the player more cautious of approaching groups of zombies. Now when you take damage from zombies you will be slowed down temporarily, the speed of which is determined by how many hits you take. If you take one hit for example, you will be slowed 50% for 4 secs, two and you are slowed 75%, building until you are completely immobile. This system simulates the feeling of ‘pulled’ by the zombies adding another level of danger to zombie encounters. You can see this in full effect at the end of the video where im ambushed by zombies and unable to escape. I really love this feature! – thanks R_Yell! 🙂  oh and he also added some sound effects to compliment the damage/slowdown/recovery which really helps! (not in the video)
